Standing on a bridge a hundred metres above the forest canopy, watching a pair of toucans fly past below me, is one of the strangest and most beautiful experiences of my life. The ground is completely invisible. You are inside the treetops, entirely surrounded by green, with Arenal Volcano in the distance and the whole rainforest moving and calling beneath your feet. I chose Plus and the hot springs afterwards were exactly what was needed. An extraordinary day from first to last.

We are both architects and we notice structure. The engineering of the Mistico bridges — how they are anchored, how they flex, how they are designed to move precisely as much as they need to and no more — was fascinating in itself. But then you look down and the forest just goes on and on beneath you, and all of that disappears and you are simply in one of the most remarkable places on earth. The waterfall afterwards was overwhelming. We will return to Costa Rica and we will do this again.

My daughter is fourteen and had been mildly nervous about the bridges — she does not love heights. Within five minutes she was leaning over the rail trying to spot monkeys in the canopy below. Our guide was brilliant with her: patient, encouraging, made the whole thing feel completely safe while also making it feel like a genuine adventure. At the waterfall she swam and didn't want to leave. This is the kind of day that changes what travel means to a young person. We are genuinely grateful.
